Less-than container load (LCL)

Less-than container load, also known as “LCL” are ocean shipments which do not occupy an entire container’s space. This means that the container is shared with other freight to make up a full container. Unsure about whether or not you need LCL or FCL for your shipment? Full container load (FCL)

A full container load, otherwise known as “FCL”,  are ocean shipments which take up either the entire space or weight limit of an entire container.  Dimensions for standard shipping containers are as follows:

  • 8 feet (width) x 8.5 feet (height) x 20 feet (length)
  • 8 feet (width) x 8.5 feet (height) x 40 feet (length)

Intermodal

Intermodal freight are shipments in either an intermodal container or vehicle, using multiple modes of transportation (e.g. rail, ship, truck), without any direct handling of the freight itself when changing modes.
